1X12: THE DAY THAT WAS THE DAY

So, here it is: the season 1 finale, which also means we are halfway through the rewatch. I was thinking of taking a hiatus next Sunday, but honestly, I would have needed it more today, lol! I have a very close deadline and couldn't watch the episode yet - except for skimming through it to take the screencaps for the graphics. So I'll just toss a question there, to get things started: do you think that, at this point of the story, Scudder's humanity and love for Ben has overcome his Dark Avataric nature?

I only have one episode left of season two, so I'm trying to jog my memory about what exactly happened in the finale for season one.

I distinctly remebering how everything just seemed to explode: all the tensions and things left unsaid that were going on throughout the season.

I loved Brother Justin's scene with Norman at the very end, right before his eyes go dark. It is interesting watching the man who raised Justin cower in fear and regret not killing him or getting rid of him as a child. I LOVE how Norman said his greatest sin was Justin. Great set-up for season two.

I have more respect and understanding of Scudder now that I'm almost done season two. I don't necessarily know if his reluctance to take part in his "role" is entirely related to Ben, but I think his love for him is a big factor. I think it could also just be the sheer exhaustion, confusion and maybe even saddness over what he is and the burden he carries.

The fire at the end was surprising. Quite the cliffhanger, although I figured Sophie would survive. lol.

Reposting what I put on the Yahoo list:

I think that in general, Scudder want's nothing to do with his
Avataric nature, but it still comes out regardless (e.g. Babylon),
but it is clear, that as opposed to Belyakov, who tried to kill his
son when it became clear he was of the opposite House, with Scudder,
his love for his child trumps the alignment, hence Scudder trying to
help Ben out of love, Belyakov trying to help Ben because of alignment.
